New Clay Raichu by VengefulSpirits New Clay Raichu by VengefulSpirits
This guy has been a pain to make >__> it broke in the oven.. so I had to repair the feet and hands.

then while painting it, the paint kept cracking X.x had to put on a few coats.. and sadly Paint doesn't stay on the wire tail that is dark grey not black.

good news is the head can turn, and tail is fully poseable, I think it might be tad too long though.

made from white Sculpey.

It looks really good despite all that happened in the making of it. I could never make one like that.

Awesome! This was my favorite Pokemon, excluding the guy with four arms. As you can tell, it's been a while since I've watched the series :P Great work, I'm surprised you did this in clay!

I have to say I like the pose of the other one more but I like this one's face more and the tail. :) So it doesn't crack in the oven I think you should knead it a lot more before anything.

the paint is what was cracking, not the Clay its self.

the Clay only broke because he fell over and bent his legs out of shape.

This is really cute, I love how the head turns! ^^ If Sculpey is breaking while baking then you might be trapping air bubbles inside while building your sculpture. Try kneading the clay more before you start and be thorough when attaching pieces together. I tend to favor Sculpey Primo over basic white, it's more forgiving in the oven and easier to sculpt with imho. Also, if you prime before painting it makes it a lot easier. Just my two cents, keep up the great work :)

the only reason it broke, is because it fell over ^^;

what do you use to prime?

Oh no, the poor thing. Well you did a great job putting it back together and that's all that really matters :) I bet you could use tin foil loosely shaped around the figure to help hold it up in the future, if you have any others that seem a bit unstable for baking.

I'm still experimenting with types of primer but my favorite so far is Liquitex Gesso Surface Prep. It brushes on smooth and dries quick, it can even be sanded or tinted with acrylics if you want. It makes my life easier lol.

That's cool, I've always wanted to make those but I never sculpted before, any pointers? (like the clay and the temp. for baking it)

For fully bendable tails, I know you have that here, you may want to see if you can find a Sculpty clay called "Bendies" or it's name has Rubber in it. Basically it's clay you back, but it is fully bendable after baking. It might be stronger, and as it is sculpty it may have more of a flow from the body. :3 Keep up the good work Venge! Your sculptures are turning out wonderful. You should make Ash and Toby sculptures too :3

I can't advise you on paint because I haven't experimented with it yet, but the figure looks a little lumpy, I'm not sure if it's the several coats or the clay itself, did you sandpaper it before painting?

I didn't sand paper it, but I did give it a alcohol wash, to smooth down imperfections, before baking it.

The tail is an improvement over your last, but the paint is still uneven; his pose is adorable and the turn-able head is really cool, though. o:

What brand/type of paint do you use?

Apple Barrel, Acrtlic Paint.

Maybe you should try nail polish? (I know it sounds odd, but it doesn't crack and dries pretty quickly. It doesn't deteriorate my clay when I use it, but I use the cheap Crayola clay, so... I guess you should test it on something small first if you decide to use it at all. )

Good luck in your endeavors! c:

I know some artists don't like critique; if I'm bothering you with mine, tell me and I'll stop. ono

I'm glad I'm not bothering you by critiquing. c:

I know a lot of people are discouraged when others point things out; I didn't want to upset you. :'D

I much prefer no comments to one-word comments, so I can relate somewhat, even though I'm not on your skill level. ;u;
