Plush making advice I wish someone told meI shared this advice over on Diffeomorphismhttp://vengefulspirits.deviantart.com/journal/Calling-all-plush-makers-novice-and-expert-417399214 journal but I thought I would share it here too.
Shaving Faux fur:
For Faux fur plushie makers, You should invest in a WAHl Kennel Pro, I bought two Andis clippers, both gave out after trimming faux fur for a few min. Also Make sure to keep your Clippers oiled and cleaned after using.
I recommend trim the Faux fur first before cutting out the pattern, so if you do cut too deep you can always make a new piece to replace it before sewing your plush together. Make sure to trim with the fur pile not against it, or you will just cut all the fur off, you want to trim it not make it bald.
Keep in mind being a plush artist gets very pricey, with Faux fur some fur colors are rare and you will some

Copyright Abuse part 2Yes, style is an important part of being a Professional artist, But if you look around here on DA this isn't a very professional place.
Style comes from being inspired by others, sure some comes from nature and things around us but allot comes from things we enjoy in others work.
Sometimes peoples styles will end up looking similar or the same, based on what they enjoy, dose that make them a bad artist? No! they are still doing their own thing. Besides style never stays 100% the same, its always growing and changing.
If someone is interested in trying your "style", its because they like your work, copying a style is how we developed our own over time.
DA is mostly filled with Hobbies, kids, and freelancers. These people don't really have to worry about having a original style, because they are not pros and allot of commissioners like generic anyway.
Part one can be found here
Is DA Becoming a Pet site? The whole Species and Adoptable Fad going on these days, defiantly makes it feel like DA is slowly evolving into a Pet-site, with how people make rules on what you can and can not do with the characters you buy, as well as People trading and collecting them like cards.
All DA needs now is a little Heath and feeding Tab for them, and this place would be a pet site lol.
New Journal skin WIPThank you everyone that showed up to watch me stream this, It was really nice getting to talk to all of you, it was also a treat to hear all of your input on what I should add and change.
the journal still needs new colored text and things moved but I thought you guys should see what it looked like since you helped out on it :3
I was really nervous at first, but talking to you guys really helped calm me down and enjoy the stream.
This History of Ash FoxHow Ash came to be, well she has went through many changes, ever since I found out about fursonas I tried to make one that I could stick to, But since I was still trying to find my self in RL, nothing really stuck.
the first ones I remember is My orange stitch like sona
Then me and my friends went through a phase where we wanted to be known by a color XD I got green so my sona then changed to green
Since I was a big fan of Danny phantom, the green form I think was her ghost form, and the brown was her normal its been so long i'm not 100% sure X'D
After my phase with Stitch ended my love for Pokemon came back and I got a pokemon sona, even joined a pokemon team lol.
and with the blue Pikachu sona came a blue a wolf/fox sona
But it still
Rivals and Idols
I personally feel that you should see people you admire/idols as a level you should strive to achieve or surpass, not think of them as gods you can never hope of ever being like.
That will only make you depressed and not strive to be great, we all have Potential as long as we have a passion for what we do.
I suggest taking a look at a person you admire the work of, an setting your self a goal to achieve that level! Make them a Rival in your mind, think of them as a person that started out just like you, but are a wee bit ahead of the game, you may have a little farther to travel on your journey of becoming better or surpassing them.
But never give up keep up that burning passion.
Price of the Art on dAI would like to move a very specific thread.
It's about the price of art and commissions. Because there are a lot of questions; what decides for the price of art? Why it is worthy? And why do we buy commissions?
Some is already written here: http://goldenwolf.deviantart.com/journal/26548172/#comments
I've met with many people who were complaining about the price of art, especially why it is expensive and it doesnt deserve. Even some person did a drama just because prices of my art are *too* expensive. And I'm not alone, I've saw on some proffessional artists who are on dA as well.
I noticed the price of art on deviantART is very low.
Like many people complains that full colored picture plus you get original for 50-70$ is too much. I did some research and counted how much artists originally earn (out of dA)- even a simple artist earns 5 times more than great artists on dA which I know.
Do you know on Eurofurence just only PRINT can be sold there for 100-500 euros?

PE: Guidelines to Starting your Own Craft BusinessGuidelines to Starting your Own Crafting Business
So you make cute crafts, and probably someone offered you money for them. Maybe you need the money, and if you're like me, you need it to buy more crafting supplies. Whatever the reason, starting your own crafty business is a decisions that you should take seriously... it's not as easy as opening an Etsy account and setting some random prices for your work. There is a lot of things to consider to keep the business going, your money safe, your name clean, and your costumers happy.
By no means this is an absolute guide, merely a few guidelines of things I've found important or questions I get asked often by people interested in opening their own business. Most of this tips are intended for online selling, but they should apply for other ways of selling too. I will probably do more detailed guides in the future, as I learn more myself.
To begin with, don't forget to research as much as you can! If you're rea
Say NO to the Internet PricesI've been observing a situation of the artist who courageously set up their prices on very decent prices (in meaning: no more 50 bucks full color image of yer characters! but almost 200$ one for her really nice character painting) where I felt so proud of her for being brave to set up the real price of the art. But I was also a witness of bunch of complaining people (mostly I noticed they were young) screaming that her art is not worth for shitload bucks.
I really wanted to slap faces of these people.
Really, who decide that someone's art is worth that price?
You do not decide how much wort is my art - as my work.
You do not know how much effort I've put into a piece, countless hours, stress, time, including also a years of practice and studies, frustration as well personal finances into the art materials.
Do you think my art is a fun hobby?
You do not decide if my art is a form of fun and what are real feelings with the artist while working on artwork as part of paid job.
It's no more

Don't take their wings awayOkay I don't know why but everytime I see someone with a clipped bird heck even a picture of one I get really mad or upset and really want to try and reason with the owner about it
and I know I should calm down about that as its not my right to say but its just, I cant help it.
I find it even worse when I see photo's of the same bird with full primaries and then newer images with it clipped I just really feel people aren't taking into consideration the birds needs and only their own.
though I guess looking up the effects of wing clipping lately probably hasn't helped
(as it turns out to no surprise wing clipping as a psychological effect on the bird causing them to be more fearful of things passing over their head and an extreme fear of falling which obviously would not occur in a flighted bird)
I just feel people aren't doing their research on how it effects their birds mental health which is very important!
yeah i knwo I've ranted about this before but I just needed to ra
A Discussion For the Budding ArtistI wanted to write something for all of the younger artists on dA (those who are not yet in college), who are thinking about pursuing art as a major or a career. I am in no way an expert, but I do have a lot of experience to share, and if you care to hear it, than feel free to read (: And I would love to hear people's thoughts and opinions on some of the ideas I present.
This past semester I have buckled down and have started to really think about art as a career and not just as a pastime anymore. I think this partially stems from the transition from high school to college. It's a strange thing being thrown into 'the adult world' and having to think about everything in a whole new light. For me, I had my mind made up that I wanted to be an artist since I could conceive the concept of having a job. I had never swayed in that decision until I was faced with the reality of the art world. It is a CRUEL, COMPETITIVE, CHALLENGING, TIME-CONSUMING in
Need textures? We had a feature of drawing references yesterday, so let's take a look at textures now. I must admit that I'm a total freak when it comes to this topic. I love textures, I love making them and I love seeing them everywhere. In this feature I'll also include some tutorials, traditional and digital, so you could learn how to make some on your own.
